In the event of severe snowfall the school may be closed. It is important that parents listen to CKNW radio 980 AM, as school closures will be announced by 8:00 a.m. The school website (www.ourladyofsorrows.ca) should also be checked for any school closure information. We will also start the parent fan out list by 7:30 a.m. if possible. If there is no announcement, or call from the Parent fan out, then school will be open. Parent Fan out callers, please ensure that you know who to call and have the appropriate numbers. You can also call the school phone # 604-253-2434 before 8:00 a.m. to check if the phone message has been updated. Please avoid trying to call the school after 8:00 a.m., as it is difficult for us to handle the many calls in the morning, and we will be trying to take calls for absences only.
As conditions are local, it is difficult to gage closures by the surrounding schools. It is also possible that the school may be closed due to power outages, or local hazards, (water, fire, flooding, icy road conditions or other safety issues) which may happen at anytime. If it is a normal school day, when we close, we will keep the students safe as long as necessary to allow parents to pick them up. So it is very important that the office has up to date emergency contact information, and parent work numbers. Please inform the office of any changes in personal information as soon as necessary. Also parents are asked to ensure the school is open before dropping off their children before 8:15 a.m.
Parents must make individual decisions as to the safety, and feasibility of sending your child to school. Parents are always encouraged to do what is in the best interest of their child and family in these types of conditions, as well as in health issues. We just ask that a note comes in as soon as possible to explain the absence due to safety or illness. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Notes Please! If your child is going to be away, please notify the school by 8:30 a.m. on every day that they will be absent from school. Also please send in any absentee notes (with reason absent) A.S.A.P.
